Youtube has vanished from iOS! With the release of iOS 6 Beta 4, Youtube is no longer a stock application on the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. This comes along with a whole series of other updates found on the fourth beta of iOS 6.
First pointed out by 9to5mac, the YouTube application is surely gone. From this point on users will have to resort to the upcoming Youtube application that should hit the App Store soon. Also, isn’t it quite funny this iOS update comes promptly after I knocked the Youtube application over the weekend?
Why is YouTube gone? According to The Verge, Apple’s license agreement with Google recently expired:
“Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended, customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the App store.”
So for the time being, I suggest developers use the web-mobile ‘application’ for Youtube. After all, it does include more functionality than what the Youtube application ever had.
Let me know how you went about viewing YouTube on iOS!
