China is the largest country in the world, they have over 1.3 billion people living there. And China is also home to the largest mobile provider, China Mobile. The provider currently has over 650 million subscribers! But the one major phone they do not currently sell is the iPhone. China Mobile does have millions of unlocked iPhones on their network, but a majority of the subscribers are Android smartphone users.
So whats going on? Why doesn’t China Mobile provide the iPhone? Well, if your familiar with T-Mobile, they alike China Mobile do not have a 3G network that is compatible with the iPhone. Unlocked phone users are granted access to the compatible 2G network instead.
But great news has arised for China Mobile subscribers! Apple is reportedly in the talks with the carrier in regards to the iPhone. Reuters has the story featuring Chairman Xi Guohua:
“We’ve been actively talking to Apple on how we can cooperate,” China Mobile Chairman Xi Guohua, who assumed the post in March, told a shareholders meeting. “I can’t give you too many details, but I’d like to repeat that both sides do hope to boost our cooperation,” Xi added after the meeting.
If Apple does use the Qualcomm MDM9615 chip in the next iPhone, than both T-Mobile and China Mobile will have a compatible network. China Mobile which uses the TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE networks, will indeed work with the chipset along with a range of other c0mpatiable networks.
