AT&T has just recently revealed what they call ‘Digital Life’ last night. Its actually a home automation and security service that will be found useful in multiple ways. We’ve seen many variations of similar home automation applications on the app-store that may turn your lights off or on, but this is way larger than that. We are talking controlling literally anything in your house from anywhere in the world.
Digital Life is controlled by Z-Wave, a wireless protocol, that has the ability to control almost any household utility that is connected to the service. For example, the lights, door lock, thermostat, fireplace, electric outlets. You can really install anything with Digital Life, and it will all be controllable via an iOS application.
But the best of all is the security brought in by Digital Life. You can install camera’s to work with the service, and you will always have an eye on your house. Window and door sensor could also be set on an alarm in which could be controlled by the iOS application at anytime. And get this, if someone was to try breaking in and the alarm goes off, you can set the alarm to turn on every light in the house upon the break-in!
Theres even more though. If you had a friend or family member coming over you can simply just unlock your house via the application, whether you choose to open the garage door or door lock. And if you ever have a water leak, don’t worry, the service can disconnect your water automatically for you. But by now, you probably have a good idea of what the service has to offer, so check out the video.
The service sounds promising and exciting, but what will really matters is how the service works in life. The video looks great, but many times companies over-exaggerate just how awesome the service really is to draw in customers.
As of now, Digital Life is not yet released, and there is no word on an official release just yet. But AT&T has said they will begin testing in Dallas and Atlanta during this summer.
