For the past week I’ve been using BiteSMS. It has a lot of features just like ChompSMS for Android. It is in Cydia for a free download, but if you’d like to remove ads, it’ll be $10.00. The $10.00 is a full license and it does include all future versions of the application without having to pay anything more.
BiteSMS Network:
If you’d'd like to send a few text messages, but you don’t want to pay for your carrier’s charges, you can buy BiteSMS credits. It does cost 12¢ per credit, or you could buy credit packs. For any amount of credit you buy, it automatically comes with a 12 month license.
Quick Reply/Quick Compose:
One of the main reasons why I got this app was for the Quick Reply and Quick Compose features. The physical features of the Quick Reply and Quick compose look a lot like the ChompSMS QR and QC (if any of you know what I’m talking about). You can customize the options for quick compose, like you can have a QC shortcut right in the notification center (in the bottom left, or bottom right). When you click messages from the contacts application you could have a QC pop up instead of going to the messaging application. Like I said there are tons of different customization options within the app.
Settings:
BiteSMS comes loaded with loads of settings. You can mess around with QR and QC (as mentioned above). What I like about this version is that if you go into the “More Stuff” option at the end of the settings list, there is an option to hide the Messaging app and only show the BiteSMS app. You can also change the icon of the BiteSMS app to the icon of the Apple Messaging app. This feature I find really cool, in my opinion the BiteSMS icon doesn’t look as good as the Apple Messaging app.
General UI:
This app’s UI is very similar to the Apple Messaging app. I really like the layout. It’s simple and clean, the only difference from the Apple app is that there is a settings icon next to compose. (See picture below)
Overall this is a great alternative to the messaging app. The $10.00 license seems a little over priced, but it has proven to be worth it so far. I give this app a 4/5 stars, the only problem being the license price. Other than that it’s perfect! You can pick it up in Cydia in the BigBoss repository, the download is free. If you’d like to remove ads without paying $10.00, you can just buy any amount of BiteSMS credit (can be purchased from http://www.bitesms.com or from inside the settings). When you buy credit it automatically comes with a 12 month license, and the cheapest amount is $6 for 50 SMS credits.
