MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev-Team was able to jailbreak an iPad Mini over the weekend. He posted a screenshot of his iPad Mini with root access of the device — confirming the iPad Mini should be easy to jailbreak along with the iPhone 4S and iPad 3.

The information obtained from the tweet was minimal and we don’t have an estimated release point at the moment. Read MuscleNerd’s full tweet below:

That tweet didn’t make much sense to me — so it probably doesn’t help you very much either. It seems that MuscleNerd is referring to a jailbreak method previously implemented by Phoenixdex and Chpwn in the past.

TinyUmbrella has received an update bringing over support for iOS 6.0.1 along with the fourth-generation iPad and iPad Mini. The program popular for saving SHSH blobs is just now receiving iOS 6 support after a long awaited released. The developer, Notcom, noted:

Sorry for the delay folks. I’m still working on some pretty dang well needed changes to TU. The wait will be worth it…

As Apple has stopped signing SHSH blobs for iOS 6, it’s too late to back them up. Everyone can now update to iOS 6.0.1 and save their blobs using the newest software.

Why should you save SHSH Blobs? They allow you to downgrade back down to an earlier version of iOS if you decide to do so. Typically when Apple  stops signing an iOS version, you’re not allowed to downgrade anymore.

Ready to jailbreak the iPad Mini? Well the iPhone Dev Team is working its best to develop an efficient jailbreak for devices running Apple’s A5 and A6 chips. The iPad Mini runs Apple’s A5 chip, along with the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. These devices have been jailbroken many times in the past on iOS 5, so it shouldn’t be too long for an iOS 6 jailbreak.

Can You Jailbreak iOS 6?

The answer is yes! But only Apple devices running on the A4 chipset can establish the jailbreak successively. These devices include the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch 4g, and iPad 1. Click here to learn how.

Newer models running A5/A6 chipsets currently cannot be jailbroken on iOS 6. This includes the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Mini, and iPod touch 5g.

When To Expect A Release

We haven’t heard much from the iPhone Dev Team surrounding the official release date, but when iOS 5 was released, the jailbreak took around 3 months to complete.

The main issue currently is the lack of bootrom exploits. Once the Dev Team finally cracks these exploits they will be capable of piecing together a jailbreak.

Will iPad Mini Be Included In The iOS 6 Jailbreak?

Yes! All A5 devices will be included in the jailbreak. We aren’t sure about newer devices running the A6 chip though.

Great news! The iOS 6 Redsn0w jailbreak works successively with devices running iOS 6.0.1 software. We have posted many jailbreak guides on our website, but following the steps found below should work flawlessly to jailbreak an iOS 6.0.1 device. Just assure that you have an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch 4g, or original iPad handy.

How To Jailbreak…

Step One: Use the links above to download Redsn0w. After the completed download, find and open up Redsn0w. (Windows users must ensure to open up Redsn0w in administrator mode)

Step Two: On the front-pane of Redsn0w, select ‘Extras’ and follow to ‘Select IPSW.’ Now you will have to point Redsn0w to the iOS 6 IPSW that you downloaded earlier.

Steep Three: Continue on back to the front-pane and select ‘Jailbreak’ with your device hooked up to the computer. When brought to the next prompt, assure that “Install SSH” is checked off. Now continue on with “Next.”

Step Four: Once the jailbreak process is completed you will need to complete a tethered boot. To complete this task, open up Redsn0w, select “Extras” and then select “Just Boot.” Follow the instructions on-screen to complete the tethered-boot.

Redsn0w received an update a few days ago that brought a countless number of updates and bug fixes. One of the few  updates that physically matters is the ability to use Redsn0w to jailbreak pre-A5 devices untethered in non-DFU mode. Instead you will complete a backup & restore method utilized by jailbreak tools like Absinthe.

Now, if you don’t have much music, video, or applications stored on your device, this method is seamless. Those that have a lot of media stored may want to complete the DFU-mode style jailbreak.

How To Jailbreak (Only works with iOS 5.1.1)

First you need to download Redsn0w. Use the links below:

Step One: Connect your Pre-A5 device to the computer and open up Redsn0w.

Step Two: Click the ‘jailbreak’ button and you will be asked which mode you want to use. Choose ‘no’ for the backup and restore method.

Step Three: Your iPhone will undergo three steps, preparing, processing, and cleaning up. Then your device will go in restore mode, which restores the backup created in the first three steps.

Step Four: That’s all. You will receive a ‘Restore Complete’ message momentarily before your device resprings. This last process may take a few minutes.
