On Friday we reported that AT&T was going to start unlocking iPhones on Sunday, April 8th, and the report came to be true. All iPhones that are currently not under AT&T contract can be unlocked for use on other GSM carriers. This feature is great for travelers who are constantly changing carriers, or if you just want to change your carrier.
Many users have reported having problems during the process though, stating AT&T representatives were unaware that they could unlock iPhones. A majority of the issues came while phoning AT&T representatives. Its suggested you use the online chat rather than physically calling them.
How To Unlock AT&T iPhones:
Step 1- On your iPhone toggle to Settings ->General ->About-> and find your IMEI number
Step 2- Go to AT&T’s support page and login. Click “Chat Now” to begin a conversation with a representative
Step 3- On the chat form explain that you want to unlock your off-contract iPhone. You can than click Start Chat.
Step 4- When the chat begins, you may need to explain your situation to the representative once again. Make sure you provide your IMEI number to the representative.
Step 5- If your device meets requirements they will unlock your phone. You now just have to wait for an email with instructions and an unlock code. The process here on out is self explanatory and will require only a simple device restore.
Please note the process may take up to a week to take effect on your device. When you receive the instructions to your email you can continue on. If you need support you can view the video at the top of the page.
