Installous 5 released with many new features

This morning Installous 5 made its release. Creator, Apptrackr tweeted out this morning letting us know of the release along with the new features. If you aren’t currently aware, Installous is a jailbreak program that allows users to download free app-store applications. We don’t in any way support this type of behavior, but we do acknowledge this as a way to test applications out before purchasing.

When comparing Installous 4 to 5, you will not notice any major difference with the interface. The design is essentially the same. The update fixed many bugs, improved downloading, iOS notification system support, and added bitorrent download support!

The bitorrent feature of the update will actually allow users to pause and resume downloads. This wasn’t an option with the online host clients we’ve used in the past. Seeding will only occur while your downloading your application, and only on a Wi-Fi network.

They also added Notification system support:

We now support iOS 5′s notification system. As an aside, Apple made it a bit difficult for non-sandboxed applications to use the notification system, so we needed to create a custom BulletinBoard plugin to provide that functionality. To keep Installous running smoothly in semitethered jailbreaks, we are using chpwn’s WeeLoader package.

The last notable update is the new icon for Installous. Thus for some people like the icon, while other aren’t a huge fan.

If you want to download the latest version of installous than add the following repository and install/update installous 5. (http://cydia.hackulo.us)

I don’t see why not, thats what Installous is for. You open Installous, search for an app, download it from the host of your choice, and then go to the downloads page and install the app.
