iOS 6 Beta 2: All The New Features

Ryan St Onge June 25, 2012 3

iOS 6 Beta 2 launched today. With it came hundreds of bug fixes with a few new features. They aren’t huge, but they are noteable enough to list below. So with a little research I will provided pictures and descriptions below of the best Beta 2 upgrades.

Shared Photo Stream

The Shared Photo Stream has been enabled! Users will now be able to turn this setting on within the ‘Photo’s and Camera’ settings panel. When enabled you can subscribe to others photo streams and even share your photo stream with others. Expect the shared Photo stream to be a huge advertised function of iOS 6 by Apple.

Twitter

The first update is the Twitter icon. In both the Notification Center and Share photo center the Twitter icon is brand new. The official Twitter application is yet to feature this new icon, apparently iOS has leaked it early.

And that’s not all with Twitter. Siri was updated to include a new HD resolution Twitter Tweet sheet. The colors are really nice, what do you think?

Calander

Just like in Mac OS Mountain Lion, the Notification Center Calendar Alerts show the full-out event time rather than just the event day like on iOS 5. For example, take a look at the photo below, on iOS 5 the (0:00 to 1:00) would not appear to the right.

Guided Access

The new Guided Access function now even works. Guided Access allows users to lock into an application and choose what buttons should and shouldn’t be hit. This would be great for kids who want to play games on your device. Check out the video below for a full demo:

Smart Banners

Websites now are allowed to have Smart Banners. These are popup windows at the top of the screen that say ‘Select’ and allow users to click to be brought to the App-Store for further viewing of the application.

PassBook

The splash page for PassBook is updated with more information on the functions. Next to ‘Boarding Passes’ a description says ‘Just scan your pass at the gate and go’. Other headlines, including Tickets, Store Cards, and Coupons have their own description also.

Maps

While not home, Maps offers you directions from your current location to your house when tapping on the search bar. This makes it much easier to go home and requires less typing.

As of now, that’s about it when it comes to features for iOS 6 Beta 2. Our sources are updating hourly with more features, so I would come back during this next few days for a full list. Thanks to 9to5mac for many of the features.
