iPad 3 Will Have 1 GB of RAM

A web blog named Chronic Wire has a last minute report saying that the iPad 3 will feature 1 GB of RAM. It takes some math to figure out, but the conclusion was made. Chronic Wire used a photo leaked by BGR last month of the debug output from a iPad 3 development unit to determine the amount of RAM.

vm_page_bootstrap: 244276 free pages and 8396 wired pages

The above output was found on the bottom line of the iPad 3 debug output. They used this info to figure out how much RAM the iPad 3 would have. Look ahead below for a full explanation:

244,276 (pages) x 4,000 bytes (size of a page) = 977,104,000 bytes = 977MB

The iPad 2 had 512 MB of RAM, which was a disappointment to many users. But with the Retina display expected on the iPad 3 we knew a RAM upgraded would be required. Along with the additional RAM it is likely we can expect either a high-end dual core processor (A5x) or Quad-core (A6) come on the new device.

Remember to keep updated with us as the Apple media event is coming tomorrow. We expect the iPad 3 & Apple TV to be announced, along with iOS 5.1! We will be covering the event throughout, so make sure to check our homepage periodically between the hours of 1 and 3 PM Eastern time for live updates.

Does this make you want to buy the iPad 3? If not, what will?
