The iRig Mic Cast for your iPhone,iPod Touch, and iPad is an external microphone. Flashing back to the past, the original iPod Touch lacked a microphone. During that time the accessory-market flourished. Stand alone microphones in particular were quite popular. But now that all devices include internal microphones and headphones with a microphones, the need for a external microphone has vanished.

So why the iRig Mic Cast? That’s an easy question. It is capable of recording a much clearer session than the internal microphone in iOS devices. Its not a top rated external microphone, but its great for interviews and simple recordings.

At only 0.3″ thick by 1.2″ wide and 1.75″ tall, the iRig plugs right into your devices 3.5 mm audio jack. Half of the real estate is taken up by a silver grille, while the other half is plastic, and black, with a Lo/Hi switch.

When you set your iRig on ‘Low’ gain, the nearby voices are perfectly recorded without any background fuzz. While on ‘High’ gain, its another story; The voices nearby are still clear, the background fuzz does increase though.

The iRig Mic Cast overall does sound much better than the iPhones internal microphone. But before making a purchase, just ask yourself, do you really need better sounding recordings? If you do, the iRig is an excellent choice. For only $40.00 you can pickup your iRig today.
