Just a day before the expected iPad 3 announcement only one could wonder what Apple has up their sleeves for the event. During large events like this they normally would introduce just one product alongside a iOS update. But this event is going to be seemingly different. The Apple TV is due for an upgrade this year and many signs point to tomorrow being the announcement date. Being such a small box and cheap product we cannot expect a huge upgrade, but it will surely be impressive.
The Apple TV is a small black box Apple has been retailing for a few years that allows access to airplay mirroring, streaming, etc. We are not talking about the ‘iTV’ which has been anticipated during recent times.
We should expect an upgrade in the processor. The second generation Apple TV uses the A4 single core chip. Being that the last upgrade was made in the fall of 2010, the A4 chip was the most recent chip. But now we can expect an A5 dual core chip, or possibly even an A5X high end dual core! We’ve also experienced slowness while streaming, which means it may be time to add additional RAM to their current 256 MB.
Currently streaming is only available in up-to 720p from iTunes and few other streaming portals. With the past 2 releases maxing out at 720p we should surely expect a 1080p full HD output.
Other upgrades may include a redesigned remote and possibly Siri. But there still is major uncertainty on these two upgrades. The remote has a simple, user friendly design currently. Also Siri being in beta wouldn’t seem to have the capabilities to complete Apple TV tasks. Yet both are possibilities, we will have to wait and see.
Thats our predictions for the Apple TV! What do you think the Apple TV will include?
