Rumor: iPad 3 March 16th Release?

The Houston Chronicle has reported earlier today that upcoming Highland Village Apple will be opening March 16th. The original plan was for the store to have a January opening, back in 2011, but delays in construction caused the date to be pushed back. The new date for opening was declared March 17th in mid-January, but today’s reports are eyeing a March 16th opening.

“The store, located in the Highland Village Shopping center at Westheimer and Drexel , was originally supposed to open in January, according to the source, but was delayed. March 17 was originally set as the new opening date, but the source said it was moved to the 16th a few weeks ago.”

This could be directly linked to the iPad 3 release because the media event is on March 7th. The iPad 2 also had an early March announcement date  being released a week later. If the pattern holds, its likely we would see a Friday release like-wise all their products.

Apple Retail Store grand openings are also not usually on Fridays, they are held on Saturday’s a majority of the time. The Apple Store Grand Opening in Amsterdam, for example, is being held during this upcoming Saturday at 10:00 AM. Its isn’t like Apple to switch up their patterns, unless a special event like this is occurring.
