Rumor: New iPhone Will Feature 4.6″ Screen

The New iPad has been released, and now the rumors are starting to focus on the next iPhone. We’ve already seen rumors regarding the LTE hardware earlier today, now we have a rumor about the screen. The larger screen has been a rumor in the books for quite a few months now, but we haven’t actually seen proof as of yet. But today Reuters is reporting that the ‘Maeil Business Newspaper’ has exclusive information regarding a 4.6″ iPhone screen. The newspapers source was an, “unnamed industry source.”

Since the first iPhone was released in 2007 Apple has used the same 3.5″ screen, despite changing the form factor a few times. But many iPhone users shared complaints regarding the same form factor on the iPhone 4 and 4s. So a larger screen isn’t out of the question because we know Apple would be unlikely to use the same form factor as the iPhone 4s once again. Most Android phones, including the Galaxy S II, contains a 4 inch plus screen.

Apple is known to use LG and Samsung to provide their devices screens. Samsung, who provides the screens to a majority of Android phones, would be familiar with the 4.6″ screen because they’ve produced many for the Galaxy S II. But wouldn’t it be awkward that Samsung is helping their competitor advance in front of many of the top Samsung Android phones?

Reuters also reports the phone would be released, “around the second quarter,” which begins this upcoming April. At earliest we wouldn’t expect to see an iPhone release until June to July, which is around the second and third quarter of 2012.

The iPhone is also rumored to include LTE capabilities. With a larger screen, the retina display and resolution may also need some updating, so the retina-display may include a minor adjustment in pixels per inch. The form-factor would also need some adjustment, so a teardrop design, rumored for the iPhone 4s, is not out of the question for the next iPhone. But we are still a ways out from a release; the rumors will be a bit slim.

Would you prefer a 4.6″ screen rather than 3.5″
